Breeze is a group show by seven photographers, of whom five are contemporary: Claudia Hausfeld, Daniel Reuter, Joakim Eskildsen, Kristín Hauksdóttir and Lilja Birgisdóttir. Their work is shown alongside older works from the collection of the Icelandic Museum of Photography at the National Museum, by  Arngrímur Ólafsson and Sigurður Tómasson.

The common factor of all the photographers is that they work with landscape in black and white. Their composition and approach to the subject, on the other hand is highly diverse – and each photographer has his/her own signature.

Their subjects are often found in Icelandic nature – uninhabited wildernesses and rugged territory. The work of Arngrímur Ólafsson differs from the others in that he depicts people travelling around Iceland, on foot or using a variety of forms of transport. Some images include mountains – faraway, magnificent, even  sinister. The ambiance of the photographs is still and calm, as in a light Icelandic breeze: flags scarcely flutter, and the direction of the wind can only be deduced from the drift of smoke from chimneys.
