Winterfestival with the vikings of Rimmugýgur and museum teacher

Members of the Rimmugýgur Viking Society arrive in full costume at the museum with a variety of items that are modelled on the antiques in the display cases. Items such as fists, combs, spindle whorls, jewellery and more. It is as if the exhibits come to life in the hands of people who know how to use them. A museum educator will be on site and will chat with visitors about various interesting items that can be seen from the Commonwealth era in the museum.
A crafts group in Rimmugýgur has carefully examined the mound and clothing of the woman found in a grave near Daðastaður. The group has interpreted the items and prepared replicas of them. The replicas can be viewed and compared with the original items in the exhibition. What do you think the items looked like when they were new and in use over a 1000 years ago? What do you think? Can you play hnefatafl? No one knows for sure what the rules were, but there is a good suggestion for rules that is fun to play with.
In the playground on the ground floor, kids can do puzzles, play with old-fashioned toys, colour pictures, and handle elaborate replicas of various Viking Age artifacts. They can also try on costumes and play with Viking paraphernalia.
Entrance is free for children up to 18 years of age. Adult admission is 3,000 kr. which includes an annual pass that is valid for all events and exhibitions at the museum for one year from the time of purchase.
Come and see the National Museum's main exhibition come to life with Rimmugýgur!
