Tuesday Lecture: The Book in the Baðstofa – The Beginnings of Reading Instruction in Iceland [Icelandic]

At lunchtime on most Tuesdays, the National Museum of Iceland hosts a variety of events, including film screenings, guided tours and lectures.

Tuesday, 8 September is International Literacy Day. To mark the occasion, Helga Vollertsen, a specialist at the National Museum of Iceland, will discuss reading and literacy among Icelanders in centuries past.

Particular emphasis will be placed on the period from the mid-eighteenth to the mid-nineteenth century, linking the lecture to the National Museum’s current exhibitions, which offer insights into Icelandic society during that era.
