Preservation of Photographs

Kristín Halla Baldvinsdóttir and Þórir Ingvarsson will give a talk on photograph preservation, focusing on the photographs and albums of Sigfús Eymundsson (1837-1911).
This event is connected to the exhibition Conversing with Sigfús – In the Footsteps of Sigfús Eymundsson.
The exhibition opened on March 8 and features works by Einar Falur and Sigfús.
Einar Falur has studied and written extensively about Sigfús' photographs and has incorporated them into his photography history teaching. Over the past four years, Sigfús' images have guided Einar’s travels across Iceland, where he has recreated Sigfús' compositions and captured his own modern interpretations in a kind of photographic diary and conversation about landscape, history, and perspective.
The exhibition showcases a selection of these conversation pieces between Sigfús and Einar Falur, including new prints from Sigfús' original glass plates and rare 19th-century original prints.
These rare treasures from the National Museum’s Photography Collection are seldom displayed.
A must-see event for photography enthusiasts!
