Visiting the National Museum is a fun adventure! Our museum educators turn the visit into a discovery journey, encouraging children to ask questions and share their experiences. Many items in the museum come with fascinating stories, and during the visit, we connect these tales to familiar stories and themes from contemporary pop culture to relate what they see to their own world. Please note that all school visits are conducted in Icelandic.

Guiding light of museum educators

From the National Curriculum

Museum educators adhere closely to the National Curriculum for Preschools and uphold these guiding principles:

  • Preschools should be social and cultural arenas where national heritage and Icelandic societal values hold a significant place.
  • Educational practices in preschools should encourage children to express themselves and listen to narratives, stories, poems, and fairy tales.
  • Preschools should foster a community where every individual is respected and contributes meaningfully.
  • In preschools, learning should be based on children's experiences and create meaningful learning opportunities for them.
