Island Vigur, Westfjords

A visit to Vigur, an island in Ísafjarðardjúp, is memorable for many reasons, including its birdlife and picturesque houses.

This classically influenced wooden house was constructed in 1860 by Sumarliði Sumarliðason goldsmith. Originally, it stood next to an older timber house dating back to around 1800.

Since 1992, it has been included in the Historic Buildings collection of the National Museum of Iceland.
