Exhibition opening: The Nation in Picture and the Legal Rights Act

The National Museum was crowded on June 14, when two exhibitions were opened on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Republic, the Lögrétta Valences and Picturing a Nation
The exhibition Lõgrèttutjldin shows the eponymous tents, which are now shown for the first time in Iceland. The scenes are believed to have hung in the Law Court House in Þingvellir in the 18th century. They are owned by the National Museum of Scotland which has now loaned them to the National Museum for the duration of the exhibition. You can read about the show here.
The exhibition Nation in Picture shows films and photographs from the founding of the Republic in 1944. The exhibition is intended to give an insight into the atmosphere that prevailed on the eve of June 17, 1944 and the festival in Þingvellir that day. The exhibition is held in partnership with the Icelandic Film Archive.
