Again - Conversing with Sigfús Eymundsson

Again – Conversing with Sigfús Eymundsson by photographer, writer, and journalist Einar Falur Ingólfsson is being published alongside the exhibition Conversing with Sigfús – In the Footsteps of Sigfús Eymundsson, which opened at the National Museum of Iceland on March 8, 2025.
Einar Falur has written about the photographs of Sigfús (1837–1911) and discussed them in photography history courses for years. Over the past four years, Sigfús—or rather, his photographs—have served as a guide on Einar Falur’s travels across Iceland. He has both recreated selected perspectives from his predecessor and composed his own photographic frames at the same locations where Sigfús once took his images, creating a kind of diary and dialogue about landscape, history, and perspective. The book is an independent work and contains numerous photographs by both Einar Falur and Sigfús, offering a view of Iceland in both past and present.
Einar Falur previously retraced the path of watercolor works by W.G. Collingwood, which are preserved in the National Museum of Iceland. That project culminated in the exhibition Sögustaðir: In the Footsteps of W.G. Collingwood and the publication of a book of the same name in 2010. Six years later, Einar Falur engaged in another such dialogue when he photographed locations that the Danish artist Johannes Larsen had sketched during his travels in Iceland in 1927 and 1930.
