The National Museum of Iceland and the book edition Crymogea are published by National Heritage by Margréti Hallgrímsdóttir. In this richly illustrated book, the National Monument Keeper analyzes the history of the National Museum of Iceland and discusses the diverse cultural heritage that the museum holds.

The mission of the National Museum is to disseminate knowledge about the history and situation of people, to provoke reflection and to enrich society. It is the head museum in the field of national heritage conservation and a leader in museum work in Iceland. Cultural relics in the custody of the National Museum tell the history of the nation from colonization to the modern day and concern the road to the future.

The book is 352 pages in size and designed by Ámunda Sigurðsson. The editor is dr. Anna Lísa Rúnarsdóttir and film director Inga Lára Baldvinsdóttir. The photographs were taken by Ívar Brynjólfsson, as well as much of the book's footage from the National Museum of Iceland's Photo collection.
